Podcast Episode with Hal Hershfield – Your Future Self

“My research asks, ‘How can we help move people from who they are now to who they’ll be in the future in a way that maximizes well-being?”  Hal Hershfield

I may have found my person. By that, I mean someone who does the research connected to the mission of my podcast. He’s just as obsessed as I am with helping people make better long-term decisions.

Professor Hal Hershfield’s work concentrates on the psychology of long-term decision making and how time affects people’s lives — perfect, given the purpose of my podcast and that Americans are living longer and saving less.

One of Hershfield’s most well-known discoveries suggests that when people are confronted with their “future selves,” they experience an emotional sense of connection that can influence long-term financial and ethical decision-making.

New Video From the Client Service King

We’re continuing our video series highlighting team members, and this month I encourage you to watch John Reagan’s under two-minute piece. John dedicates his professional life to client service. It’s that simple. He is reliable with a capital “R,” and I consider him the backbone of Hill Investment Group. John is a partner in the firm, leads client service, the Financial Planning Committee, and founded our Longview Charitable Initiative (where we give back to our communities). John is someone you want on your side. Clients have told me that they wish they could “find a John Reagan in other parts of their lives.” John works every day to help simplify and add value to the lives of the families we serve. He’s self-described as “slow and steady” in the video, and we love him for it! It’s also a perfect fit with this month’s podcast.

Nell’s Journey to Partner and COO of HIG

I told you last month that we’d be highlighting our team in a monthly video series and this month it’s Nell’s turn. A former petroleum engineer, Nell cold emailed me four years ago after hearing me interviewed on a podcast. The way Nell’s brain works caught my attention, both in her writing and in the subsequent call. Nell is now a trusted partner and leader of Hill Investment Group. She’s even got a nickname. We call her “Sheriff Schiffer” for the kind but firm way she has us all following a strict process. We hope you enjoy watching and listening to Nell describe how she found her “dream job” at Hill Investment Group.
